Re: SASA 2009 Congress

Dear PD’s

Following the success of the SASA 2007 Congress held at Sun City in August 2007 and the significant financial gain of R125000 profit to SASA, the decision to once again hold a combined congress with ASSA/SAGES has been taken by the SASA Executive.

In making our decision the following points were taken into consideration:-
  1. SASA needs to provide an education platform for all members. The ASSA/SAGES Congress gives SASA the opportunity of raising the standard of the level of academic input for those members who have been in the field of Stomaltherapy and Wound care for many years. Registration to the ASSA/SAGES congress enables delegates to attend any and all lectures on offer as well as to attend the SASA programme.

  2. The SASA Symposia which are being arranged to take place in the relevant provinces during the course of this year are aimed at providing education on stoma care to SASA members and nursing staff at an elementary level.

  3. SASA members being very involved in their day to day stoma and wound care duties are pressed to convene a SASA congress and the costs of using an Events Management team are prohibitive.

  4. SASA earns 10% of the profit of the ASSA/SAGES congress which equates to a substantial income for SASA.
The SASA 2009 Congress will be held in Cape Town at the CTICC (Cape Town International Convention Centre) in August 2009.

We are cognizant of the fact that SASA should maintain its identity and in this regard the SASA Executive welcomes input from the SASA members with regard to ideas on how to improve on our success of last year.

Input on the academic program, social functions, commercial interaction are all welcome so please forward these ideas to your PD or to the SASA executive ASAP.

We will keep all SASA members fully informed of the details pertaining to the congress and look forward to

welcoming you all in the Mother City in 2009. Yours Sincerely
SASA Executive
